2023 - 2024 Class Descriptions and Pricing


Block Schedule Grades 1st - 12th

Mondays & Wednesdays 8:30am - 12:30pm

Grades 1st-2nd:
Teacher: Jessica Davis
This class will meet each first and second grader where they are. We will work on phonics, reading, and language arts skills using Abeka. This is a great program that lays a firm foundation in these subjects. We will study science, history and math as well. Fun games and flash cards will be implemented to enhance learning. Students will work on class work and get some work to take home for days they aren’t here. Goals for the class will meet the first and second grade standards. In this class, we will make learning FUN where a love for learning is instilled. 

Grades 3rd-4th:
Teacher: Kristen Rinehart
This class will be full of fun and engaging activities for 3rd and 4th graders! 

We will use Notgrass History: Our 50 States to learn all about the geography of our country. We will use music, recipes, art projects, games, and literature to learn about each region of the United States. Each lesson teaches new geographical terms and highlights important people and historical events in each state. 

We will use Abeka Science: Exploring God’s World to learn all about energy, weather, Earth’s surface, our solar system, plants, animals, and the human body. 

We will use IEW: All Things Fun and Fascinating as our English and writing curriculum. This is a fantastic program that helps children learn to write strong paragraphs using a variety of strategies. 

Our math block will focus on memorizing multiplication and division facts using games, songs, and tricks to help the children retain their math facts. We will also have games and activities to help practice other 3rd/4th grade level math concepts. No curriculum will need to be purchased for our math block, our activities will support any curriculum you are using at home.

Grades 5th-6th:

Grades 7th-9th:
Teacher: Michelle Breedlove (Biology & American History)
Biology: As a college-prep high school biology course, this class will give them an understanding of the basic biological world that surrounds them each day of their lives. We will cover topics including botany, zoology, cellular and molecular biology, as well as human anatomy.
American History: This course covers American history from the time of the Native Americans and first European explorers to the 21st Century. It discusses actions and developments on the national level, especially involving the Federal government, as well as issues and events in American culture.

Grades 10th-12th

 The Good and the Beautiful will be used along with alternative teaching methods. Book studies will be done using various books based upon small group skill levels. Different lessons will be taught on Mondays & Fridays.

Ages: 13+

Pre-K

Tuesdays & Thursdays 9:30am - 12:30pm

This class will focus on preparing children for Kindergarten while working with children who are at the Kindergarten level in preparing them for first grade. We will focus on academics using Abeka. Abeka focuses on phonics and teaching them to read for those who are ready. We will work on math skills consisting of recognizing numbers and counting to 100 among other math skills as well. We will dabble into science and history. We will utilize imaginary play, books, games, puzzles and manipulatives for learning fun. Character building skills will also be taught as well as units on community helpers and more. Social and emotional development is important at this age and will be developed and nurtured in this class. All children must be fully potty trained.

Ages: 4-5
Tuesdays: $120 per month
Thursdays: $120 per month
Tuesdays & Thursdays: $240 per month


Cooking around the World

Get out the sombrero for your Mexican fiesta! Chinese egg rolls! Corn pancakes from Venezuela! Fried plantains form Nigeria! We will explore over thirty countries. Jam-packed with delicious snacks, divine drinks, and delectable desserts, this class is sure to please. The entire class will be fascinated with tidbits of culture provided for each country including:
-Etiquette hints
-Food Profiles
-Culture a la Carte

Sewing

Welcome to sewing school! Sewing is an important life skill and you are never to young or old to learn. Students can be creative while learning the basics to sewing to include threading and knotting a needle and sewing on a button. Most importantly students will learn safety and how to sew on their own.

Ages: 6+

High School Art

Come explore exciting new combinations of mediums and techniques in art! Students will learn shading, drawing techniques and color theory using different mediums in subject matter THEY love! Throw in a little fun history for a complete art experience.

Traveling the Continents

Come along on this trip around the globe to learn about the continents!  North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Antarctica and Australia will be explored with hands-on geography lessons, lap book organizers, and a pretend passport.

Jr Lab: Human Anatomy

Tuesdays 9:30am - 10:30am

This class will explore the intricate and amazing design of the human body. From the brain in your head to the nails on your toes, this class will explore fascinating facts, engaging activities, and intriguing experiments as your student learns about the human body and how to keep it working well. This course will cover the body systems including skeletal, muscular, respiratory, digestive, cardiovascular, nervous, and more!

Ages: 6-12

Medical Skills

Curriculum that will be used:
MEL Science medical kits
Medical Investigation 101

Mel Science kits provide students with hands on learning and education in dentistry, orthodontics,,  pharmacy and cells, Laboratory diagnostics, introduction to surgical instruments , sutures and ECG basics. Skills such as use of a stethoscope. Pulse oximeter, sphygmomanometer, and thermometer will be taught as well.

Medical Investigation will teach students how to  fill out medical records, learn and understand medical terminology. Students will  learn how to utilize the medical diagnostic process in realistic case studies. Practical information such as lifestyle habits and CPR will also be touched on.

The class counts for 1 high school Science credit

Biography Buddies

Come and meet some passionate, talented, inventive, and creative men and women from around the world! This class will explore the lives of people from the past and present who made contributions to our society. We will learn about these amazing individuals through books and corresponding crafts, projects, and games. This class is bound to inspire young learners to explore new interests and instill confidence to preserve in the face of challenges.

All About Tennessee

In this class, students will dig deeper into Tennessee: the Volunteer State.  Students will learn about state symbols, geography, history, agriculture, music and even have fun with Tennessee southern culture!

STEM Jr.

Build character while learning STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) skills.  In this beginner STEM class, students will build over 40 different structures using manipulative kits.  While engaged in hands-on fun, students will also be challenged with collaboration, communication, creativity, respect, perseverance and more!

Sociology

This course is an introduction to sociology which will introduce students to different ways of understanding the world around them. Sociology is a field of study that seeks to explain human society and group behavior. This class will focus on several important sociological topics, including socialization, culture, deviance, inequality, poverty, and more. This course fulfills a High School requirement.

PE Jr.

In this class students will develop and practice; fundamental motor skills, body awareness, spatial awareness, and teamwork. We will emphasize these skills through fun cooperative games and activities. Students will develop an active and healthy lifestyle while enjoying new and traditional physical education games.


*P.E. will take place outside. Please send your student in weather appropriate clothing that can get dirty, including sneakers. Please send students with a water bottle for hydration.

Coding for Beginners Using Scratch

An introduction to coding for complete beginners. The students will learn the basics of Scratch (Free Program) which will allow them to get inside the code of their computer and create simple games and animations on screen. We will use the Usborne book: Coding for Beginners using Scratch

Edible Science

Students will dig into a feast of fun where they are the scientist and the kitchen is their laboratory. After testing theories and make some amazing discoveries, students will actually be able to eat their results!

Culinary Arts

In this culinary arts class your child will increase their kitchen vocabulary through hands on baking and cooking experiences. In this class, they will be learning several different measurements and their abbreviations. They will learn in a safe environment how to identify different knives and their specific cuts (example: juliene, small/large dice, batonnet, brunoise, mince). They will also learn different cooking methods (example: boil, steam, roast, bake, sauté, fry). This class will explore the different elements of the kitchen in a fun laid back way showing the beauty of foods, recipes, tradition, math, and science and how they all come together in the kitchen.

BizWiz/Biz World

Teacher: Beth Anglum

Thursdays 9:30am - 10:30am

BizWorld teaches children the basics of entrepreneurship, business, and finance. Students start, fund, and run their own companies by making products created from simple craft materials and culminates with the Sales Bazaar. Students have multiple opportunities to practice leadership, teamwork, and decision making, while honing their math and communication skills. 

BizWiz teaches children the basics of money management and investing. Students learn about different types of investments (stocks, bonds, CDs, venture capital, real estate, and collectibles) and create an investment portfolio. Students collaborate in order to set a financial goal, develop an investment strategy and trading plan, create a diversified portfolio, and track their investments which culminates in simulated trading sessions to work toward meeting their financial goals.

Engineering: Awesome Machines

Thursdays 9:30am - 10:30am

Explore engineering concepts through fun and challenging hands-on projects! Students will learn through experience how to design, build, and problem solve. Some of the projects we will explore together: mouse trap cars, toothpick bridges, Rube Goldberg machines, an egg drop competition and more!

Crafting Kids

Thursdays 10:30am - 11:30am

This class is for students who love to work with their hands and use a variety of materials to create fun crafts. The goal of this class will be to spark creativity, learn new skills and encourage self-expression all while having fun! The students will find satisfaction in creating something from scratch from seemingly random materials. Projects will include everything from wind chimes and weaving to puppets and pinch pots.

PE

In this class students will learn fun games and activities that will help them in their movement, coordination and sports skills. We emphasize fitness and teamwork. We will learn traditional playground games.

Nature Study

Some of the best classrooms have no walls! During this nature study course, we will learn about plants, animals, seasons, weather, and more. Weather permitting, this class will take place outdoors where we can fully appreciate our “nature spot” and become astute observers of the world around us. Students will keep a year-long nature journal.

Project Base Learning

Teacher: Beth Anglum

Thursdays 11:30am - 12:30pm

Students LOVE real-life learning, and this class will foster that love of learning. Students will have the opportunity to create maps, solve problems, make brochures, plan activities, and so much more all year round. We will use real-life math, reading, and writing skills to complete these fun projects. Some of the projects include designing a water park, starting a hot cocoa stand, plan a road trip, and so much more!
