Physical Science

Students will engage in many scientific topics through lessons and hands-on labs. Modules will cover the basics of chemistry, including properties and states of matter, atomic structure and the periodic table, chemical bonds, and reactions and energy. Modules will also cover physics and include the study of motion, forces, energy, light, electricity and magnetism. Students finish out their year learning about Earth science. This class is considered a lab science that satisfies a middle or high school lab course requirement.

Elementary/Middle School Math (multiplication and division)

Math-U-See Gamma will be used along with alternative teaching methods and materials. Students will start off learning multiplication.

Essay 101 - 1st Semester
Essay 102 - 2nd Semester

Pre-Requisite: Essay 101 required before taking Essay 102
Throughout these lessons, middle school and high school students explore the writing process and apply it to six different essay forms. Students will learn to edit their own work and evaluate their work. The essay forms covered are: expository, biographical, descriptive, personal experience, eyewitness report, and cause and effect.

ages 14+

Creative Writing Jr.

Mondays 9:30-10:30

Young students will have fun learning how to write using various children’s books as story starters to jump-start their imagination and kick in creativity. Each week we will create story books complete with animation. Students will have the opportunity to share their stories and illustrations with the class. This class is open to children who can write and those who cannot yet. This is a beginning creative writing class that also helps with basic communication skills and is sure to be a load of FUN!

World Geography

In this course, students will "travel" around the world. Students will explore physical geography, the earth’s climate, and the people of the world.

Bird Nature Creative Writing

Mondays 10:30-11:30

This course uses The Good and the Beautiful curriculum and will help students explore feathered creatures that surround them in their everyday world. Students will keep a Bird-watching Notebook and will study many aspects of birds such as bird tracks, feather identification and also a state bird study. Students will also have opportunity to hunt for birds outside on nice days. This class is sure to please all who take it, bird lovers and the like!

Ecosystems Science

The Ecosystem class offers young students a chance to embrace our Ecosystem using The Good and the Beautiful Ecosystem science curriculum. We will explore the wonders of our vast world. We will look at our local ecosystem as well as our Ecosystem around the world. We will cover things such as food chains and food webs, Earth’s Terrestrials Biomes, Aquatic Biomes and much, much more. It’s sure to be exciting, engaging and make science come alive for students.

Life Skills

In this class students will begin with the three fundamental skills on which all other skills can be built: communication, decision making and goal setting.

Jr Lab Science: Chem & Physics
Teacher: Beth Anglum

Tuesdays 8:30-9:30

From atoms and molecules to laws of motions and thermodynamics this class is a perfect introduction to chemistry and physics. This year your junior scientist will explore states of matter, energy, magnetism, and simple machines through creating projects and performing experiments. This class will complete several of the suggested experiments and activities in the Apologia’s Young Explorers Series, but it is not a required text.

Life Skills Jr.

Tuesdays 8:30-9:30

In this class students will learn may valuable life skills using fun hands on activities. Some of the skills the students will learn are basic first aid, laundry, writing a thank you note, studying for at test, and many more useful skills. The main curriculum going to be used is The Thinking Tree: Life Skills along with other supplemental resources.

ages 10-14  $40 per month


American Sign Language 3rd Year

Tuesdays 8:30-9:30

Prerequisite: ASL 2 If you have taken ASL 3, this class will also include 4th years.
This class is the fourth-year sign language class that will continue to focus on teaching students how to communicate in American Sign Language. If your student is on a college bound course and needs a foreign language, most colleges will accept ASL as a fulfillment to this requirement.

Learning Lessons: Berenstain Bears
Teacher: Jessica Davis

Tuesdays 9:30-10:30

This class will feature the classic Berenstain Bears books that we all know and love. Students will listen to various stories and discuss the lessons we are to learn from it such as good manners, telling the truth and being a good friend. We will not only discuss these lessons in great detail but students will engage in activities to reinforce what they learned as well. We will work on The Berenstain Bears Science and Nature throughout the course as well in different seasons. It’s sure to be a blast for all learners.

Lego Build to Express & Challenges
Teacher: Beth Anglum

Tuesdays 9:30-10:30

Lego Build-To-Express encourages students to express their thoughts & ideas by building symbolic models with Legos. This class helps a student develop creative thinking & problem solving skills through a wide range of topics. Students will develop interpersonal skills & learn to express their feelings in a constructive manner. It will also offer a variety of challenges to stretch the students creativity.

American Sign Language 2nd Year

Prerequisite: ASL 1
This class is the second-year sign language class that will continue to focus on teaching students how to communicate in American Sign Language. If your student is on a college bound course and needs a foreign language, most colleges will accept ASL as a fulfillment to this requirement.

Research & Debate

This course is course will promote research, analysis, and public speaking skills. Students will learn to organization and clarity, how to persuade and how to listen. This class will also touch on Powerpoint presentations.

Exploring Native American Culture
Teacher: Emma Akridge

Tuesdays 10:30-11:30

In this class, students will bring the history of these fascinating people to life. Using hands-on activities, students will explore traditional Native American daily life, including shelter, clothing, food, tools and technology. They will also investigate myths, legends, ceremonies and celebrations. This class is sure to keep younger students engaged and having fun while learning!

Fitness & Nutrition Jr.

Tuesdays 10:30-11:30

Students in this course will study health basics such as the human body, healthy foods vs. non-healthy foods and how to make good choices of what they eat. They will also participate in fun fitness routines. It will be a class that features a lot of movement as we learn fun exercises to do to carry with us each day to keep healthy. We will study all things health and wellness to instill a lifelong appreciation in making healthy choices for our lives.

Escape Games
Teacher: Beth Anglum

Tuesdays 10:30-11:30

This class will utilize your students skills in all areas of academics as well as teaching them to work in a collaborative team to solve problems. It will include puzzling challenges that help build critical thinking skills and teamwork. The games will cover a variety of topics from geography and math to famous people and growth mindset. The students will even have a chance to create their own escape room.

ages 11-14 $40 per month


American Sign Language 1st Year

Tuesdays 10:30-11:30

This class is a beginning sign language class that will focus on teaching kids how to communicate in American Sign Language. If your student is on a college bound course, most colleges like to see two years of a foreign language. ASL can fulfill this requirement at some colleges.

Cook with Books

Tuesdays 11:30-12:30

WARNING! FOOD WILL BE USED IN THIS CLASS. WE WILL TRY AND ACCOMMODATE FOR ALL FOOD ALLERGIES.
Students in this class will have a hands-on experience in preparing various types of foods themselves! We will read delightful children’s books that pertain to what we are preparing that day. Students might make a breakfast, lunch or dinner food and also participate in cookie decorating and create various dessert recipes as well. This class is a fun and interactive way for students to develop a love of cooking, baking and even reading!

STEM

Introduce students to everyday technology and exhibit how simple machines work! This entry-level STEM kit helps kids understand the world around them, while simultaneously creating a solid foundation in STEM concepts that will prepare them for future success. Concepts covered include cause and effect, energy and matter, structure and function, analyzing data, designing solutions, and more. Using the included components and comprehensive guides, students can build a centrifugal governor, manual transmission, wind turbine, a beam balance, and more.

Keyboard Typing 102

In our world today, technology has increased and keeps doing so. Knowing how to properly type has become more and more important. This class will use The Good and the Beautiful curriculum to help students learn to type and feel comfortable using a keyboard and in turn, will set them up for an easier time of writing papers etc. The class will be fun and engaging. The curriculum used is designed to make learning typing fun. This class is a must for all students who have some practice with typing.

Sociology

In this class, students will be studying the dynamics of society. We will cover a broad discipline of how humans interact with each other,  and how human behavior is shaped by social structures ( groups, organizations, communities).

This course will nurture speaking and listening skills while also helping students develop an appreciation of the Hispanic culture and customs. Students will be encouraged to learn through interactive teaching and will actively participate in communicating with each other as they grow in their understanding and confidence. Students will be encouraged to participate in music, crafts, games, dance and watch videos to enhance their experience.

Finance - 1st Semester
Health - 2nd Semester

Personal Finance is an upper level course that will focus on basic finance skills to help students plan for the future using Dave Ramsey curriculum. HS Health is an upper level course on total health. Health is ever changing but we'll use new information as it becomes available. These classes will be taught by Michelle Breedlove who has a B.S. in Community & Public Health. These classes will satisfy .5 credit toward health/wellness and .5 credit toward personal finance required on HS transcript.

Beautiful Feet Geography

Wednesdays 10:30-11:30

This literature approach Geography course features a fantastic way for students to learn Geography! This course has four books by Holling C. Holling that will be read aloud to students as they color in areas on big, beautiful maps that coincide with the book they are reading. They can listen and follow along with the story all while learning about lands all over our beautiful world. Books that will be featured in this class are Paddle to the Sea, Tree in the Trail, Seabird and Minn of the Mississippi. Students will study Geography without knowing they are studying it because they will be having too much fun being engaged in the story and maps! A dynamic course that is sure to please all who take it!

This is a great introduction course to writing for bird lovers and those wanting to learn more about these beautiful creatures. Fun will be had by all!

Astronomy - 1st Semester

Astronomy: Lets explore the vastness of the universe. Students will study the basics of the field of astronomy, the sun, moon, planets, asteroids & meteors, the Kuiper Belt and Dwarf Planets, galaxies, and more.

Geology: Student will explore the layers of the earth, rocks & minerals, plate tectonics, soil, weathering & erosion, sedimentary rocks, igneous rocks, metamorphic rocks, the rock cycle, sand, and fossils.

Crazy Kid Concoctions

Art and science collide in this hands-on class. Students will be able to try their hand at concocting a variety of art supplies, edible creations, dough, and so much more. Be prepared to get a little bit messy and have some fun!

Sewing 101

Welcome to sewing school! We are super excited to be able to offer this class this year. Sewing is an important life skill and you are never to young or old to learn. Students can be creative while learning the basics to sewing to include threading and knotting a needle and sewing on a button. Most importantly students will learn safety and how to sew on their own.

Engineering for Kids

Without limits, what can kids create? In this class students will take charge of the world they want to create by designing inventions and solutions to challenges faced in the imaginary City X, the first human settlement on another planet. Students will learn the tools and skills engineers use to become designers of solutions. Students will engage in problem solving, design, thinking and engineering to create their very own City X.

Website Building for Beginners

This is a beginners class. Students will design and build a real working website from scratch using HTML, CSS and Javascript.

Space Science

Space science is such an exciting thing to study. In this course, we will use The Good and the Beautiful Space Science curriculum to gain a greater appreciation for space. We will study the Milky Way, planets and just about everything there is to know about our solar system as a whole. Children will be amazed as we study the stars, constellations and basic Astronomy. We will read books and take a deeper look into the planets while using various activities to instill learning. Students will have a blast learning about all things space.

Homeschool PE

Basic music skills will be taught to our younger learners. Students will learn the seven basic elements of music such as pitch, rhythm, dynamic/expressive markings, timbre, texture and history. Students will complete fun activities and will learn to compose, perform, evaluate, analyze, improvise and read basic music. We will also listen to different types of music and discuss the dynamics of that as well. The class is designed to give all students a deeper love, understanding and appreciation of music.

Explorers & Pioneers: Past & Present

Throughout history Explorers and Pioneers have transformed the world. Using The Thinking Tree Time Traveler History Explorers & Pioneers: Past and Present, students will research over 30 different historical figures from throughout the world and the ages. Students will learn about the accomplishments, family, life, beliefs, and adventures of each influencer. This is a wonderful way to study history that is fun and engaging.

High School Art/Art History

Come explore exciting new combinations of mediums and techniques in art! Students will learn shading, drawing techniques and color theory using different mediums in subject matter THEY love! Throw in a little fun history for a complete art experience.
